This evening was Beth and my weekly superhero meeting. After a yummy tortilla crusted tilapia (yay Dominick's!), Beth and I headed out for at least 4 miles, hopefully 6. We opened the door of my nicely cooled townhouse and stepped outside. Then we hid by the shed for 5 minutes trying to convince ourselves to go for our run. So hot! So HUMID!!! Ugh. We made it the first two miles before stopping for a break, breathing for Beth, not running for me. We stopped again at the marble stop but the stupid marble was not cool like it usually is. Stupid marble store. After leaving a faceprint on the door we continued on to Oberweis where we stopped for water. We were just shy of 3 miles so Beth came up with the brilliant idea to run the last three miles as mile repeats. Since we had been aiming for four miles at that point but would require frequent stops due to the excessive heat (seriously, it was 93 degrees at 9 p.m.) and humidity, why not run a mile, take a break, run another mile, etc. That way we got our 6 miles in for the week. That definitely helped. Plus Beth pulled out her samples of BioFreeze to rub all over our arms. That was the icing on the cake! It totally worked and made at least part of my body feel cooler.
The air was still so thick but the combo run a mile/take a break and BioFreeze made the 6 miles possible. I was so super sweaty, it was gross. But still Beth and I, in between mile 4 and starting mile 5, had a number of men honking and cat-calling. Perhaps it was the running skirts we were wearing? We figured if they actually got close to us, they would change their tune. The other downfall of me sweating was that the mosquitoes loved me. We finally made it home in 2 hours with 1:14.58 of it running. After amble amounts of water and a trip down memory lane, Beth headed home to shower and I did the same.
